Wine Bottles Reincarnated

This post is dedicated to my best friend Claire for multiple reasons. The first of which: she's the the most rockin' girl on the planet. The second of which, she just left for a remote and exotic location well known to the likes of Gimli, Aragorn, and Frodo. That's right, she is in New Zealand for a month-long NOLS backpacking course. (Like I said, the most rockin' girl on the planet.) Unfortunately, Claire will not be returning to the mitten we call Michigan until after I have made my big move to NYC. So here's to you Claire- I miss you and love you and expect to see your rear end in NYC the first chance you get.

There's one more reason why this post is dedicated to Claire. She introduced me to the world of glass cutting... which has become my latest project. It's unlike anything I've ever done. And I think this is why it has been so satisfying. I need to send a quick shout-out to Jeff, Mark, and Debbie from work because they've been so helpful saving up all their wine bottles for me.

So yes, the glass I've been cutting have been wine bottles! Cutting off the bottoms at various heights makes the best wine glasses, mixed drink glasses, everyday glasses, and even a few cool vases. Here are a couple photos of my very first use of my very favorite glass.

I also took some video of the cutting process. I have uploaded it onto my computer but I haven't really used iMovie in ages... at least not since all the software has been changed and updated. I'll have something fun to show you as soon as I figure everything out! ...With my past record, though, I wouldn't hold your breath.

More to come!

On an ending note, I have purchased a copy of "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. I'm only a few pages in, but I'm awfully excited about it. I decided to get this particular book because I watched the movie The Cider House Rules. In case you have not seen it, there are multiple scenes in which a man reads to a room of orphan boys before bed. I thought one of the passages was so beautiful that I Googled it. Turns out it was from "Great Expectations". From Google to Amazon to check out. Badabing, Badaboom.

The quote that so interested me?

****

"And then I looked at the stars, and considered how awful it would be for a man to turn his face up to them as he froze to death, and see no help or pity in all the glittering multitude."
